idioms ...
Polaroid + cross stitch.
It all began with a lemon, and thinking about the lemon as an idiom for something broken. What I was really interested in with this exploration was language and how language can change the meaning of something. I took the idea of idioms and created a series of six cross-stitched Polaroids, which were on display at the Tippacanoe Arts Federation in January 2022. With this series, I was refining the stitching technique I began in 2020. I was interested in how some of the images are still recognizable, while others are completely obliterated. How the thread (much like language) can transform as well as distort.
