documentary book.
The Marks We Leave Behind (book) came as a response to the original photo series. It includes photos from that series as well as family snapshots. The text includes the stories I heard my whole life about my dad and my own stories about growing up with him as my dad. Portions of the stories were purposefully redacted. Much like I know there is more to his stories I’ll never understand, there is more to the story than I am willing to share with you. As in much of my other work, the redactions act as a protective barrier between the viewer and the work.
*The photo used for the cover of the book is one from my family snapshots, of my mom and dad in the early 70’s, which was taken using my grandpa’s camera. The same camera used to create my funeral film series.
